JROTC JROTC is a leadership class the teaches students respect and how to work as a unit (team). The class is about “ providing a quality citizenship, character, and leadership development program, while fostering partnerships with communities and educational institution” (Army JROTC Cadet Creed). JROTC stands for “Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps” (JROTC History). “JROTC was founded in 1916 by Army Captain Alden Patridge by the National Defense Act” (JROTC History). There are different types of JROTC there are Navy, Army, Marines, and National Guard. In JROTC the instructors are retired military personnel. The class also teaches discipline, as well as how the army marches, forms a battalion and military barracks, and even how to perform facing movements. JROTC is offered is offered through High Schools for students interested in the military, or interested in leadership and responsibilities. Some quotes are used in JROTC to motivate young cadets to be better citizens. Some quotes are recited during training and others are learned in classes. One of the quotes that students learn in this class is “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination” (Quotes Gram). This quote means that no matter what kids are going through they can always find a way to get through it, even if that means not to do it alone. Other quotes that are recited during training exercises to help cadets stay focused and motivated during those activities are, including “ there is no glory in practice, but without practice, there is no glory” (JROTC Cadet Creed).
