Webster defines religion as an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god. Religion gives people, faith and hope; and an understanding that there is a greater, more powerful figure that is looking out for you, God. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are some of the most relevant and major religions there are. With approximately 2.1 billion people, Christianity is the biggest; and with an estimate of 1.3 billion, Islam is the next biggest; and coming in with 15 million, Judaism is the sixth largest. All of these religions have a lot of similarity, and a lot of differences. All of them are monotheist, which is the doctrine or belief that there is but one God.The prophet Abraham plays a big part of that. Abraham is seen as the father of all these religions, because he was the one who first came with the concept of monotheism. Abraham was born and raised in Ur of the Chaldees, city located in the land of Mesopotamia. It was told that, God had come to Abraham and had communicated with him. Abraham accepted and became a believer of him and only him. Abraham bringing the idea of only being on god is what caused the branch of all three religions believing in one God. Because before Abraham, everyone was worshiping more than one god or even things like the sun or moon. Although there are some religions that still believe in objectified things, it is a sin to worship any other another thing (Islam, Document #2).
