Sumner and Keller said, “religion in history, from the earliest to very recent days, has not been a matter of morality at all but of rights, rituals, observance and ceremony.” Is that what really religion is all about? Human beings are all very different from each other however, one thing that does make us similar is that we all believe in something. Religion makes humans who they are. Religion is mostly made of rules and rituals. Many of these rule-based religions are Judaism and Islam. The word ‘Islam’ is derived from Arabic word ‘submission’, and is also related to Arabic word salaam, meaning peace. Islam is filled with rituals and rules, there are five pillars in Islam, Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj. Each of these pillars hold a lot of value to Muslims, Shahadah represents a profession of faith. Salat is when a Muslim prays for five times, zakat is when Muslims give donations to those who needs them. Sawm is when each Muslim fast during the Holy month of Ramadan, and finally Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims’ also pray Quran; it is the holy book of Islam that serve as a guide to Muslims. Faith is the reason why even these religions exist, because if people didn’t believe in god/gods would religion like Islam, Christianity or even Buddhism existed. Faith blinds us and we don’t question the morals, or what we’re being taught. Religion also is the reason why there are so many viciousness in the world. Religion can also be the cause of a lot of violence, because many people comprehend religion in a wrong way and their reason to these violent acts is religion.
