On October 21st, Rabbi Paysach Krohn spoke at Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverly Hills on the subject of Jewish unity. The talk was part of an on-going series entitled Modern Minds on Jewish Matters where various speakers discuss important issues facing the Jewish community. Rabbi Krohn is a popular speaker and writer, best known for his Maggid series, a collection of inspiring stories published by Artscroll. He is also a mohel and author of a book on circumcision.

By limiting the power of the government you keep power in the peoples and states hands. When the United States was created it wanted separation for Britain because they had to much power and control over the colonies so far away. The Declaration of Independence was written and signed then sent to the king of Britain. The colonies wanted Independence from Britain because they did not want a monarchy rule.

The Truth About Mormons and Utopianism In the mid 19th century reform movements took charge of American antebellum society as the nation attempted to further progress and individualize itself (Brinkley 269). The Utopian movement materialized in response to growing strife within the nation. In creating peaceful and enclosed communities that equally involved each person no matter their gender, Utopians sought to escape from the chaos of American society (Brinkley 273). However, not all members of the Utopian movement stayed true to its beliefs.
Brigham Young was born in Whittingham, Vermont on June 1st. The small Vermont village of Whittingham, lies along the Deerfield River, just a few miles past the Massachusetts border. Brigham Young decided to join the Mormon Church after the Book of Mormon was published, and then was baptized by Joseph Smith, who was the leader of the church at that time. When Joseph Smith was shot and killed Brigham became the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. “He became an ardent missionary and disciple, and moved to Kirtland, Ohio, where he did carpentry work and undertook preaching missions (Bringhurst).”

In the story “Franny and Zooey” there are many religion based ideas throughout the characters. All of the characters portray a different belief on religion. Such as Zooey. He can’t stop being religious even though he wants to. The author himself can relate to the concept of religion in the story, because he also practiced Buddhism.
For example, in “Here come the Maples,” the couple is constantly on an unequal playing field because they sleep separately, they work in poor conditions, and they never share a happy moment together. Similarly, in “Jury of the peers,” Minnie lives with John for more than a decade and over that time she felt like a trapped bird, as the one in her house that was killed by her husband. Furthermore, these two stories lack a wife that feels fulfilled or happy because of a fulfilling relationship. For this reason, they are similar. In addition, both stories have a husband oblivious to reality because the wife was always brought to a particular level of unjustified, unachievable omnipotence which shrouded their thinking.

Judaism and Hinduism have many things in common. Both ancient religions believe in a higher power and both began as being specific to a certain region before later expanding in the late 19th century, with Judaism originating in Egypt and Hinduism taking its roots in India. With that being said, there are also several differences between the two religions. Hindus believe that we are reborn from a previous life until we achieve “oneness”, which is the unity of all beings with the Divine. Jews, on the other hand, believe that we are created in God’s image with the capacity to either be good or evil.
