Ellie Wiesel, an author who wrote about his near death experience of being sent to a Concentration Camp in his book , Night, named his book after the darkness found in those who captured and tortured over six million people. The Jewish, Gypsies, and the Homosexuals were the main groups who were captured by German Dictator Adolf Hitler and his soldiers. In 1944, Wiesel and his family was captured in their neighborhood and was sent to Auschwitz. Wiesel, who was fifteen at the time, lied about his age in order to stay alive and be sent to work instead with the able-bodied. The able-bodied were those who were not too young, anyone under eighteen, or too old, those who were over forty-five.

In today's society a countless amount of intelligent young adults throw away their talent by making short sided decisions, or partaking in harmful habits. Some claim the dilemma on modern media glamorizing such bad habits. Others asseverate that the people around them are to blame. None the less Gwendolyn Brooks expresses these concerns in an almost morbid fashion with her powerful poem "We Real Cool" which conveys a cautionary theme that those who chose to live fast paced lives filled with so called "cool" choices tend to live short lives. Her use of rhythm, dialect, and word choice presents the almost unnerving theme in an incredibly haunting way .
Ellie Wiesel was a Jew who was captured by the German Nazi’s during the Holocaust in 1944. He was only 15 years old when he was sent to the Concentration Camp. Ellie, his mom, his sister, and his dad was sent to the Concentration Camp in Auschwitz. In January 1945 Ellie was transported from Auschwitz to the camp in Buchenwald. He talked about how he remembered walking by the Crematorium and watching them throw babies into the ovens.
Deborah Tannen, a professor of linguistics at Georgetown University, is a popular author in the United States of America. Mostly of her focus in her articles and books is on the expression of interpersonal relationships in contentious interaction. Tannen became well known after her book You Just Don’t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation was published. However, this was not her only claim to fame. Along with this book, she also wrote many other essays and articles including the popular article “Marked Women, Unmarked Men.”

Before I read the essay, I thought it was going to be solely based around women in politics, but it wanders off into the general area of sexism and misogyny where she Goldsworthy starts writing about how the female is viewed in common society, and then further away into Gonzo porn, online culture, typically associated with teenage women and their image and how they are viewed online, and also how women may go out and correct their flaws by makeup and plastic surgery. Goldsworthy begins her essay here with Gillard 's speech, now referred to as simply ‘the misogyny speech’, it was a hit out of Abbott and his associated endorsement of ‘sexism and misogyny’.
Zadie Smith’s “The Girl with The Bangs” is a vivid account of a romantic relationship between two incompatible characters with vastly different personalities. Told from a first person perspective, it traces the narrator’s journey through an unusual relationship with the girl Charlotte, exploring what it is like “being a boy” – enthralled by a girl’s physical features and thus willing to tolerate any faults of any magnitude (188). The main character of this movie is called Sophia who was a German student and an anti-Nazi political activist, she belonged to a group called The White Rose non-Violent- resistance (biography online). Sophia Scholl is considered an important symbol of anti-Nazi resistance in Germany. During the movie Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, the power of femininity, the figure of a mother, and the power of Christian faith can be observed throughout the movie.
An Emotional Understanding Behind Lars and the Real Girl Mise-en-Scene Craig Gillespie Lars and the Real Girl is a remarkable film, based on a plea for understanding, and compassion. In this film the director uses many camera angles, onset decorations, symbols, costumes and also lighting schemes that add value to the character of Lars. Lars being a shy young man living in a small town with an apparent mental illness shows the important role Bionca has in the films narrative. The film Dances With Wolves is a moving, culturally significant American western film produced in 1990 and directed by Kevin Costner, who also plays the lead role of John J. Dunbar. It portrays a fictional account of the relationship between a soldier and a tribe of Sioux indians. In the beginning, Dunbar is an injured soldier who accidentally makes himself a hero while trying to commit suicide by riding his horse in front of the enemy. When given a choice for where he wants to be stationed he requests the frontier, because he wants to see it “before it’s gone. ”While stationed alone at Fort Sedgwick in Dakota territory, he befriends the people of a nearby Lakota tribe.
Carol Karlsen 's The Devil in the Shape of a Woman: Witchcraft in Colonial New England provides a sociological and anthropological examination of the witchcraft trends in early New England. By examining the records, Karlsen has created what she suggests was the clichéd 'witch ' based on income, age, marital status, etc. She argues that women who had inherited or stood to inherit fairly large amounts of property or land were at particular risk, as they "stood in the way of the orderly transmission of property from one generation of males to the next." These women, Karlsen suggests, were targeted largely because they refused to accept "their place" in colonial society.
I have recently read the short story “Priscilla and the Wimps” by Richard Peck. In response to the prompt, I do not believe that Priscilla’s treatment of Monk was justified. When dealing with conflict, it is crucial not to resort to physical violence, otherwise it may further escalate the conflict. Technically, if you resort to physical violence to try to stop bullying, you are just as bad as the bully. In the story, Monk was picking on Melvin (Peck 2), who was Priscilla’s closest friend (Peck 1), and Priscilla ended up putting him in a hammerlock and then locking him in a locker for a whole week (Peck 3).

Our story covers thirteen years, as nineteen-year-old college student Hana, quickly falls in love with a mysterious “wolf man”, the last to inherit the blood of both wolves and humans, who was attending her classes. Despite his differences, Hana’s love shines through as they marry, and bear two children; an older sister, Yuki, born a snowy day. And a younger brother, Ame, born on a rainy day (The Japanese words for snow and rain are “yuki” and “ame” respectively). The family lives peacefully in the city until the wolf man suddenly dies, and Hana is forced to raise two wolf children on her own, facing not only the stress of being a single parent, but the stress of the fact that she has no wolves to turn to about her children’s other halves.
