Logic or Emotion? What would appeal to someone more for them to understand someone's side, logic or emotion? This question is relatable to a subject to a Shakespearean play with the speeches between Mark Antony and Marcus Brutus. There are many arguments of who had the better speech but it's not who had a better speech but who used the different techniques better. The different techniques they used were ethos- based on ethics and character, logos-which deals with logical reasoning, and pathos-relies on emotion or passion. With the different techniques which also set them apart that means who used their resources better to convey their message such as Antony used an emotional perspective because he knew how unintelligently the crowd was. …show more content…

With the ethos technique he also used many fallacies a fallacy he used was a red herring, which throws the conversation off track a little bit. What threw it off was when he showed the stab wounds and named who had what cut but he wasn't there to see it and the people believed him. One other one he uses its repetition this was used with the word ambition which was about Caesar Brutus stated he wasn't ambitious(III,ii,73-107 ). With all the confusion that Brutus caused with his logical speech one of his major flaws was misjudging the crowd badly if he would've taken another route maybe he could've had people to support him. What made their speeches alike was that they were both trying to win over a crowd. Another concept was the fallacies they used they used those to their advantage. The last thing is the ethos logos and pathos technique which only really worked for Antony with the route that he took. With all the similarities in their speeches there are quite a few things to set them apart. Such as the route they took to convey their message with Antony using the emotional side and Brutus using the logical side. The next difference is the judging of the audience out of the two Antony was the one to read the crowd right therefore that already gave him an advantage. In the end the one major thing that set them apart is who got the support of the people. With Antony having a good read of the people the people
