The theme of a story is the central topic of a text. The theme that I chose is the theme of fate versus freewill. I believe this theme is shown throughout the book. For example, this theme is present in the play during act 1, scene 2. This tragedy is not the only place that this occurs. Earlier this year we read the Tragedy “Antigone” I believe that this theme is also present there. The most difficult example for me to find Was an example of fate versus freewill in the real world. An example of fate versus freewill in the real world could be whether or not somebody has a bright future or not. In act 1, scene 2 of “Julius Caesar and related reading” the theme of fate versus freewill is evident. the quote I found supporting this statement is “Men at some time were masters of their fate, the fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, but in ourselves.” This would make one think that fate doesn’t exist if “men at some time were masters of their fate”. Earlier this year we read a Greek play written by Sophocles named “Antigone”. In Greek literature fate is a very important thing but the characters in “Antigone” illustrate that freewill is the main determination of people’s lives. An example that shows the characters taking control over their own lives is when Ismene and Antigone are talking in the prologue about the new law that was past how they are not allowed to bury their own brother. And Antigone decides she is going to bury him regardless. “I will bury him and if I must die I say that this crime is holy”.
