In Julius Caesar written by, William Shakespeare, we can see the different ways that Brutus is the tragic hero. A tragic hero is someone, who is usually noble, that makes an error in their judgement which ultimately comes back to haunt them. We can see that this is the case from Brutus because he makes a bad judgment decision. Brutus was a noble man that was well-respected and spoke very well. His great friend Julius Caesar was getting too tyrannical and he had to do something about it. At least this is what was said to him by Cassius. He betrayed his friend, Caesar, which showed his flaw as it backfired and came back to have bad conflicts. He was noble and well-respected where he had only one flaw which made him suffer. “The Stoic, the man of honor, could not have tolerated an existence which, although noble, superior, and admirable on the surface, was contaminated within” (Paolucci). This quote shows that he is very well-respected but also has one flaw that ended in his downfall. His error in judgment was that he decided to kill his good friend by taking the side with Cassius and others. This made his life harder than it was because his one flaw turned into a consequence. His decision came back to haunt him because he couldn’t take it anymore and killed himself. All of this shows what it means to be a tragic hero in Julius Caesar. He was noble and well-respected, just like Brutus, but still had one flaw with him. Everybody loved him and thought of him as a great ruler but certain people didn’t seem him this way and saw a power-hungry person. One of these people is obviously Brutus as discussed before. But just like Brutus he was a flaw, or judgement error, that has a conflict for it. He does not have an external conflict from this though unlike Brutus. Him doing everything he did showed that he cared a lot for the people that he was going to rule over and made him liked a lot by the people in Rome. Since he was liked so much this was where his flaw came into play. He became very tyrannical and made some people question if he was such a good ruler for them. He was also stubborn during his time around the people that he was around. If he didn’t have these flaws he wouldn’t have had the problem that he had. The external conflict in the end was that he was murdered from the fear that he was going to be too powerful. If he wasn’t like this than he would have still been alive.
