Despite them both being elected officials in congress, Antony is liked more by the public because of his ability to communicate his ideas. In the play Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, both Brutus and Antony are very close to Caesar, and they respect him for all he has done for Rome. Brutus thought that Caesar was gaining too much power and had to act fast before it was out of his control. So, at the Senate, he planned to slay him in cold blood, Brutus succeeded in doing so, and Caesar collapsed. Antony delivers the more affective speech, he grabs the audience’s attention very effectively, and uses Ethos, Pathos and Logos very effectively. Antony starts off his funeral speech with “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him”. Section 1 Antony: He does this to grab the audience’s attention to hear him out, and let him speak his reasons. The audience hears him out and they truly understand what he is talking about, and what he is addressing. On the other hand, Brutus says “Romans, countrymen, and lovers! Hear me for my cause, and be silent, that you may hear” (section 1 Brutus). Brutus just opened up his speech with negativity, because he demands the audience to hear him out. Antony had no part in the death of Caesar, Antony truly respected Caesar and was faithful to him and to Antony. Antony had a lot to say about Caesars passing and was very emotionally direct about it. I just believe that’s why Antony over all had the best and most affective speech. Brutus seems very bossy and demanding and doesn’t let the audience state their opinion, on what they thought of Caesar, Antony waits for the audience to stop talking then he begins, and the pauses to have room for the audience to speak. A citizen really understood what Antony was saying and was more direct,” Methinks there is much reason in his sayings” Four citizens spoke out during this time, Antony gave them time to express what they felt and thought. It proves that Antony gave the citizens of Rome to express themselves and say what they think about Caesars passing, Brutus gave very little time for the citizens to express themselves. Antony wants to hear the people of Rome’s opinion so that he knows what to clarify, and when the citizens ask him something he gives them the answer. Some people might argue that Brutus had the most effective speech. Because they may think what Brutus had to say was very emotional, and they heard him throughout his
