Eric Tu Mr. Carter JAGS AP US History 11 July 2014 AP US History Book Critique 1. Brief Overview Joseph J Ellis’s book, Revolutionary Summer, is both a nonfiction political tale of how the thirteen colonies all agreed to separate from the British Empire and a brief military narrative of the battles on Long Island and Manhattan. This book focuses much on the non-military aspects of the conflict between the Continental Army and British Army such as the various events of the summer and fall of 1776. Important figures included in Revolutionary Summer are, delegate John Adams, John Dickinson, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, General George Washington, British Officers William and Richard Howe.

Mama June Shannon of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is slamming TLC for the fact that they canceled her show, but they are keeping the Duggars around. Radar Online was able to talk to Mama June and get her opinion and it is obvious that she is still not happy with TLC for the way that they treated her. Tonight Mama June and Sugar Bear will be returning to television in the show Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. Mama June is not happy that the Duggars have a show coming back to TLC next week. On December 13, a three week special will be airing that shows Jill and Jessa along with the rest of the Duggar family besides Josh.
Two words…Water Wednesday!! There were many sounds of laughter in the air today in Garden 2! During Circle Time, we practiced writing our names and the letters “S” & “T”. For Show & Share, friends had wonderful summer collages of themselves. We were so proud!
Warrior Day C/Patel Warrior Day, a day in which AFROTC cadets face both mental and physical challenges in a competition amongst one another. For the AS100s like myself and AS250s, our first warrior day provided a unique experience which would only make ourselves better in the program. Warrior day consisted of a midterm evaluation, drill evaluation, warrior knowledge competition, and a physical training (PT) session. The first portion of Warrior Day consisted of a midterm exam on our warrior knowledge. The exam was quite easy for the cadets who spent time carefully studying all the knowledge learned throughout the knowledge.
The location I chose to research was Juneau, Alaska. Juneau is located in the north-central portion of the Alaska panhandle and is only accessible by air or sea. Juneau is 3,250 square miles and is 80% land and 20% water. The present climate of Juneau is a coastal rainforest climate, which is any location in the mid-latitudes that receives 50 inches of rainfall a year. The mean annual temperature of Juneau is 42 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Iowa State Fair is the most influential events throughout the state of Iowa during the month of August. This is a place where one can go to experience shows, art, food, and see livestock from all around the country. Most people however, go to this fair simply to have fun. On my visit to the Iowa State Fair in the previous summer, tasting all of the different foods, quality of the rides and the positive attitude from the carnival workers highly encourages me to come back year after year.
I believe that Columbus Day shouldn’t be a holiday. Columbus was horrible to the Native Americans, He took them as slaves, wiped out them with diseases, and just killed them outright with superior weapons like guns. He tried to convert Native Americans into Christians while trying to wipe out the Native American Culture. In Columbus’ journal Columbus wrote “All the inhabitants could be taken away to spain to become slaves.”
Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population. The projects leadership and funding came from the SNCC and COFO, along with hundreds of white college students in the north. In 1963, the SNCC organized a mock vote for blacks, which gave them a chance to prove they were capable of understanding politics. The civil rights activists from both organizations and the white volunteers from the north faced many challenges during the campaign.
It’s devouring all the watermelon, peaches, and strawberries you see, enjoying every single bite like it’s your last. The distinct body odor you smell but don’t care if it’s disturbing and wouldn’t do a thing about it because well, those are the perks of summer. Having the smell of burnt wood in your hair after a bonfire, roasting s'mores. We can’t forget the popsicles and slurpees we make our parents buy almost everyday. Summer is eating anything cool to refresh our poor burning bodies, barely being able to take in all the
I claim that Columbus Day should remain an American holiday. I believe Columbus Day should remain an American holiday because Columbus laid the foundations for the widespread European migration from Europe to America. Although Columbus was not the first to discover America, he was the first to attempt to colonize America. Columbus’ Voyages led to the widespread exchange of food, goods and animals. Now known as the Columbian Exchange, this is a momentous point in history.
One of the biggest issues in today 's society is the affordability of continuing education. The increasing cost of tuition over the last couple decades have forced young adults and teenagers to make one of the hardest decisions of their life. They have to make a choice on either putting themselves in debt that could sometimes exceed over $200,000 or battle it out in today 's struggling economy with nothing more than a high school diploma. Now, this should not be the case, everyone should have the opportunity to continue their education without putting themselves at risk or in a situation where income after graduation heavily outweighs their tuition cost. For example, in Kelsey Griffiths case, she is graduating on Sunday from Ohio Northern
Corn grows on every corner in the rural parts. In the summer kids are always outside, swimming and playing, enjoying life no matter what they are doing. An average farm town with your average restaurants and diners and your average people. There’s two small lake houses that hold countless memories of a summer spent with family a few years back.
The kids are still going for 175 days, but the timing is different.” Kids that go to year round school have this kind of schedule, 30 days off for summer
I already can’t wait for summer to start again. Thanks for everyone who made my summer one to
