“It’s easy to stand in the crowd but it takes courage to stand alone.” stated by, Indian lawyer and world leader, Mahatma Gandhi. This is an inspiring quote because it can be connected to many other subjects. This quote goes along with the play because instead of going along with everyone and saying that the man was guilty, Juror #8 was the only one that said that the man was not guilty at the first vote. This play, 12 Angry Men, is about a 19-year-old man convicted of stabbing his father. The man testified as not guilty and said that he was watching a movie during that time. Twelve men were then picked to sit in a room and discuss if the man was guilty or not guilty of stabbing his father. Reginal Rose shows much conflict and characterization amongst all the jurors to make the play more eye-catching to viewers. One of the many jurors that showed justice is juror #8, he kept fighting for the man even when no one believed him, showing a lot of characterization. Juror #8 began to prove this theory by demonstrating it himself. In total, it takes him 39 seconds to get out of bed and walk down the hallway at a suitable pace for an elderly man. “Four. And the old cripple swore, on his oath, that it was fifteen. Eleven. He may have been a little bit off on the speed that the old cripple moved at but twenty-four seconds off… well, now you know…”(Act 2 Page 42).
