The play, “Twelve Angry Men”, by Reginald Rose depicts twelve members of a jury as they discuss the case of an murder allegedly by a colored man. The twelve jury members each represent a stereotype in society. In the modern adaptation of “Ttwelve Aangry Men”, the play continues with four of the jury members who go to a bar, where they discontinue their previous discussion of the deliberation. Upon a news alert, the four jury members begin to debate about gun control. . Juror four is a fact oriented character, who is the least emotional of the characters and continuously tries to keep the peace even ifwhen that means dismissing someone’s thought. Juror four Ffour acts as an intermediary between jurors three and eight, whenas three is provokesing eight and Juror 4 states “let’s all be civil here!”(p_) Whenever there is a quarrel, Juror four acts as a mediator and tries to stop the argument. Often he does this by dismissing both sides of the argument, the victim and the bully.
Juror four wants everyone to be as calm and non-confrontational as he is. Juror four becomes visibly annoyed when juror three begins to act up and “ heavily sighs and folds his arms to his chest...” Juror four expects everyone to act as he does. Juror four often dismisses arguments as emotionally colored if they are not objective and fact based. In fact, despite agreeing with three’s stance on gun control, when three begins to become emotional four states: “ Personally, I agree with Three that gun control is unnecessary and a direct violation of our second amendment rights however, we should try to keep the argument fact based and less emotionally colored. ” (p_)Juror four approaches the conversation with a fact oriented attitude and dismisses anything that is more
