Stories of the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin were seen and heard on nearly every news outlet and radio station beginning in February of 2012. On the night of February 26th, 2012 Trayvon Martin, an African-American teenager was walking home from a 7/11 convenience store carrying a small bag containing an Arizona iced tea beverage and a bag of skittles. On his way home, Martin was gunned downed in the streets of a gated community in the state of Florida by 28-year-old white resident George Zimmerman. While Martin was unarmed and had no criminal intent in mind, Zimmerman claimed to fear for his safety. This led to Zimmerman shooting Martin several times, which Martin shortly after died from.
Sandy Banks is bothered by the injustice of police officers towards possible innocent victims. Because it seems like if officers rely on shooting at people as their safest option, Banks demands better training to help solve this issue. Police officers being caught on camera doesn 't changes the fact that the victim will become wounded, or pass away, yet, in most cases officers are not held accountable for the insensible act. In her article, "Horrific videos aren 't solving police shootings, but better training might" Banks asks for better training for police officers, as she developed strong pathos with details, great logos with logical solutions and consequences, but a weak ethos by not mentioning her credentials and the other side of the story.

“Greasy Lake” By T.C. Boyle, The Protagonist’s Personality Traits The “Greasy Lake” is set up in the typical ‘rebel without a cause’ setting. The protagonist and his two friends Digby and Jeff are rebellious teenagers, brought up at ‘a time when it was noble to be bad’ (Boyle). As the story unfolds, the protagonist and his friends encounter a chain of events that forces him to reevaluate his stance on life. The story depicts culture change with time something that the three friends are keen to be part of.

On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the city of New York. On that fateful day, two airplanes were hijacked by terrorists and flew straight into the twin towers. Each tower fell completely to the ground, taking thousands of lives with it and injuring thousands more. Not only did that day leave thousands of families without their loved ones, it also left an entire city and an entire country to deal with the aftermath of the destruction. Al Freeman 7/22/17 Extra Credit The article, Mapping the Margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics, and Violence Against Women of Color, by Karen Crenshaw discusses then race and gender issues surrounding violence against women of color. Crenshaw draws attention to the severity around issues of black women’s experiences of rape and domestic violence getting silenced, overlooked, and misrepresented. There are many political and structural aspects of intersectionality that Crenshaw focuses on within the article, including using an analysis of the violence against women of color to show how important it is to look at these issues through the lens of interconnected races.
Picturebooks are often introduced to children by parents and teachers to spark an early interest in reading. Besides an educational value, for many young and old, there is a sentimental value placed upon certain books, as well. This is the case for Corduroy by Don Freeman (as both author and illustrator) and myself. Published in 1968, the tale follows a stuffed bear with a missing button and his adventures through a department store. Corduroy, like other picturebooks, possesses some unique artistic choices in its production and composition.

The women’s racism caused her reaction of “running in earnest,” “worried glances” and her eventual getaway, exemplifying the prejudice of a black male. He further demonstrates his “ability to alter public space” when just crossing “in front of a car stopped at a traffic light.” He hears the “thunk” of the driver locking their car regardless of them being “black, white, male, or female.” Staples understands the world is dangerous and people have the right to fear those around them, however, he continues to endure discrimination. But I am the person making those judgements.
One thing God has been teaching me lately is that his love is the only love you will ever need. His love is constantly surrounding you and helping you grow into a better person. He has taught me to forgive and you will be forgiven. As I was reading my bible and listening to a forgiveness sermon on YouTube, I came across a verse and a song that truly spoke to me. The song is called, The Only Way Out by Andra Day.
Changing who you are is very difficult. You're going to struggle changing, but sometimes you have to. People come to a realization that they are doing something wrong and that they have to fix it. So they fix it. People can do anything to change the world and themselves.
The poem, “Roses Only” was written by Marianne Moore in 1924. Consisting of no rhyme scheme, little rhythm, and no flowing relationship between words, “Roses Only” breaks the mold of traditional poetry. Despite the unconventional style it was written in, “Roses Only” has a surprising natural rhythm to it and organically conveys its main idea. In “Roses Only” Moore writes addressing a rose, but the rose is only a symbol used as an allusion.
People change for many things, the change for good or sometimes for bad. Most people change their size, shape, or even a new look. I’ve change in many ways like, I change to be someone better, size, and a little bit of my looks. Last year I use to settled for a good or ok. Now, I need to try to be the best, not the good one.
