“Ten little soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were Nine…” “And Then There Were One” is about a group of ten people that traveled to the mysterious Soldiers Island. However, after they get there people start dying one by one and no one knows who is the culprit. Someone in the house is the murderer and they need to be found before it's too late. Throughout the story justice is shown if you were in the killer’s perspective.
Although it is terrible when people die they all did something wrong which was enough for the killer to see it as justice to kill them. On page 36 it says how all the people in the house are all guilty and what their crimes were. Justice is the theme because they all did something terrible and the killer felt they deserved to die. One specific example of justice in the killer’s mind is on page 245 “At breakfast I slipped my last dose of chloral into Miss Brent’s coffee when I was refilling her cup.” The killer would see this as justice because she …show more content…

On page 247 “From my window I saw Vera Claythorne shoot Lombard. A daring and resourceful young woman. I always thought she was a match for him and more.” Lombard left innocent locals in South Africa stranded and left them to die while he seeked refuge so the killer thought he deserved his fate. “The order of death upon the island had been subjected by me to special thought and care. There were, I considered, amongst my guests, varying degrees of guilt. Those whose guilt was the lightest should I decided, pass out first, and not suffer the prolonged mental strain and fear the more cold-blooded offenders were to suffer.” This exhibits justice because the killer gave the most pain to the most guilty like they would in a courtroom. This is one way the killer saw justice in killing people who were trying to leave their past
