After watching The Godfather, one of the main characters that really stood out was Tom Hagen, played by Robert Duval. We see from watching the movie that family is important to the Corleone family, and Tom is a key factor to keeping the family together as their consigliere. Though he is not related by blood or marriage, he was brought in and raised as a son and brother. His loyalty to the Corleone’s is unfathomable, and this is well represented as he is the right-hand man to the Don. He also acts as the form of reason and consciousness within the mobster realm amongst the men. We see this when Sonny loses his tempter and wants vengeance, Tom explains to him the repercussions that his actions could have not only on the organization but also within the family. …show more content…

Government officials are bought off and they dispense their own brand of justice. They have an act of religious, biblical sense of justice. As many have heard the expression “an eye for an eye,” but in this case it’s a body for a body. This tends to get out of control during the mob war. We see when Marlon Brando is the Don and his son gets gunned down, instead of acting vengeful, he realizes that the violence needs to stop. Two of the Dons have already lost a child and Don Corleone doesn’t want anyone else to have to suffer through the grief of who’s might be next. With all the bloodshed, there is nothing getting solved or settled. It became time to act rationally and cherish the family they still
