Two Souls in One Body In the short story, “K Becomes K” by V.V Ganeshananthan the main characters, Sashi and K break the idea that two people cannot possibly become one person. It is significant that they are able to break this idea because the shared intimate moments that Sashi remembers sharing with K is what keeps them connected. Even though K is not physically present in the realistic world, her memories of him and her actions that illustrate Sashi longing for him allow K to continue living in her. Shortly after K’s death, he gets moved into a temple where Sashi cleans him in oil. As the priest and doctor leave, Sashi starts to “… moved onto him [K], matching each of my [her] living parts against his dead ones so that my [her] whole self was pressed against him, living cells against dead cells. During this visit, Sashi and K have studied and speculated each other’s facial appearance (290). Sashi studying K’s face and K studying Sashi’s face is significant because this is the first sign that illustrates how interested Sashi seem to be in K and vice versa. Being captive by K demonstrates Sashi’s motivation in getting to know him in a deeper level; as a result, this leads to Sashi feeling attach toward K. The more she is attached to K the more likely she will able to feel K’s pain just like it’s her own. In addition, Sashi and K intertwine in each other through Sashi’s physical connection with him, her action is: “I held onto him with all my might, as though I could bury myself in him, or as though between us, the earth and I could still hurt him.” (298). In desperation of making K alive again, Sashi has hold K’s body tightly demonstrating the grief she feels. Through her pain, she has tried to bury herself in him; this illustrates how even though she is alive, her pain creates an allusion as if she is dying in
