Historically, throughout every presidential election the state and atmosphere of the country shifts; whether it be towards a negative or positive direction depending on the, subjective, perception of the citizen. In the United States of America, every four years, a new presidential candidate is chosen, through such, arguably life-changing event, the epitome of what a democracy looks like is showcased and performed for the world. As historic and important the 2016 election was in America, considering a woman and celebrity ran against each other, it is evident that what is to come, within the 2020 election, will only further highlight polarizing opinions/parties of American citizens; as it did with the 2016 presidential election. “Why candidates win and why candidates loose” (American Politics Today, Bianco, Cannon, 218) is consequently a result relating to their campaign management/rendering. Through an image and issue oriented campaign, more specifically with active social media interaction, and ameliorating an essential, moderate, shared party identity, Kamala Harris has a realistic/crisp chance of winning the 2020 general election. Consequently, the named strategies can be utilized to overcome, unavoidable, challenges.

In an issue oriented campaign, the focus is on a few issues, in hopes of seeking support from those who care largely about them (Ritchie, POSC010, Lecture, 2017), the crisps reality is, for Harris, nearly all of the issues she largely focuses on now and is extremely vocal out, abortion, gun regulation, health-care, immigration reform (Harris.Senate.Gov, 2017), are obvious topics that the democratic party has been advocating for and against in contemporary society. Thus, to be frank, she should not have much difficulty winning the primary election considering democratic voters will unapologetically align themselves with her arguably extreme views; as they have done before with Donald Trump in the RNC (Republican National Convention) and Bernie Sanders in the DNC, who lost to Hillary. However, assuming that Kamala Harris wins the democratic nomination and becomes the second woman to every run for president, in U.S history, a strong focus on an issue orientated campaign would be extremely hurtful considering within the general election, Harris must appeal to every American, not just those with a shared party
