Compare and Contrast Earthquakes

This essay will be about the differences and similarities of the Kamchatka and Rat Islands earthquakes. It will also include a few interesting facts and some explanations as to why the results of these earthquakes occured. The Richter scale rating of the Kamchatka earthquake was a 9.0, because of the subduction of the Pacific plate and for the Rat Islands earthquake, it was an 8.7, because of collision from the North American and Pacific plates. No people were reported to have died during both of these earthquakes due to low population in both areas. This is a little strange due to how high the earthquakes are on the Richter scale but because of not many people lived there at the time, the area recieved no deaths or injuries. It is unknown how many people were left homeless after both of the earthquakes but many towns did have to rebuild in Kamchatka. The cost of property damage was estimated to be around 1 million U.S. dollars. Shorelines and infrastructure were damaged or destroyed all around Hawaii, which will be explained in a second, forcing local residents to move and rebuild and livestock around these areas were killed.
