Izel Jepchirchir Kipruto Statement of goals and professional experience
I am seeking admission to Kansas State University’s Masters of Science: Education Leadership. I am inspired to take this graduate degree because of the following reasons.
First, as a Young African Leader, I recently (June- August 2017) Studied Civic Leadership under the Mandela Washington Fellowship in Staley School of Leadership Studies, Kansas State University. The experience deepened my knowledge on the role of leadership in making progress on the daunting challenges facing citizens. I believe leadership is core to making development progress, more so in the education sector. I wish to pursue a master’s degree in education leadership and later a Doctor of Education in educational leadership. My research interests are leadership, change; school leadership; education access and quality and community engagement. Having served as a teacher and researcher at www.twaweza.org in the past six years, I have interacted with policy actors, teachers and parents and gained firsthand experience on issues confronting the education sector that warrants genuine leadership. For instance the challenge of learning crisis as cited by the 2018 World Bank Education Report, is something I deeply care about and a master’s degree in education leadership will help me gain skills to address the issue. Specifically for Kenya I have experienced children schooling but learning little, evidently such challenges call for true and passionate leadership in the education sector. I believe a Master’s degree will help me understand the nexus between education systems, policies, practice and the role of leadership in the education
