Togan or Wada Kansuke
Leaders that affect you the most are the leaders that you have when you are younger. In “The Samurai’s Tale”, Togan is one of the first leaders that Murakami had. Togan was a kitchen cook for Lord Akiyama, and Murakami met him after Lord Akiyama found him hiding in kura. Lord Akiyama made the orphaned Murakami live with Togan until he became of age to become a stable boy. Wada Kansuke met Murakami when he was way older, therefore, having a lesser effect on Murakami as a person. Wada Kansuke was considered more of a friend to Murakami. Even though he did have leadership traits, they did not have as much impact on Murakami compared to Togan. In my opinion, Togan is seen as an overall better leader when compared to Wada Kansuke in “The Samurai’s Tale” because of his kindness, selflessness, and his guidance toward Murakami.

They wanted Togan and Murakami to bow to them but they didn’t want to. Togan stood up for Murakami and made sure that he would not be harmed. However, in the end, Togan was killed because of his protection for Murakami. He actually gave his life for Murakami. Wada, on the other hand, didn’t give his life for Murakami. Wada was a great leader and all but he never gave up his life for the protection of another. Wada may have given his life in battle, but that didn’t really affect someone’s life by allowing them to live instead of dying. I think Togan truly showed much more selflessness than Wada did. The act of selflessness often shows how much you care for the person. Therefore, Togan’s act of selflessness shows that he cared very much about Murakami’s future and where it would lead him more than his
