Kanye Omari West, also known as Ye, is an American rapper, writer, singer, producer, and fashion designer. He has been known for making many controversial statements in his life, yet is still one of the most influential and popular artists of this century. Some people consider him one of the greatest rappers of all time. Kanye was born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia, where he would only be there for three years as his parents had decided to divorce. He soon later moved in with his mother, Donda C. West, in Chicago, Illinois. Kanye lived in a middle-class environment for the time he lived in Chicago. At the age of ten, he would later move with his mother to Nanjing, China. Kanye West started his musical career around the mid-1990s. He primarily would produce beats for other record labels as a ghost producer, which is when you produce tracks for others, but are not credited for it. Later on, Kanye tried to have a record label himself as he wanted to become a rapper as well. Multiple company records denied or ignored him since at that time, there was a certain trend you had to follow to fit with those record labels, which Kanye did not fit. Kanye does eventually find a record label called Roc-A-Fella Records that can sign him as a recording artist. While at Roc-A-Fella Records, Kanye released his first album in February of 2004, and it became an instant success. It was already No. 2 on the Billboard 200 as his first album. While his album was performing better than ever, Kanye had decided to found his own music label, called GOOD Music. His next influential album for hip-hop artists was 808s & Heartbreak as it encouraged other music artists to be more creative and be more risk taking when it came to producing music.
