Kanye West is not an asshole! Throughout his entire career, he has been viewed as a jerk. His creative style and passion for what he loves is often mischaracterized to form a negative image of him. When one goes against what is normal, it is often looked down upon. Being different can be detrimental to someone’s personal brand. Kanye is perceived as obnoxious, but in reality, he is simply passionate about what he does, loyal to his friends and family, and different from others in the music industry.

He has openly expressed his frustrations by ranting throughout his life, whether this be in concert, to the media, or online. His rants are not meant to be mean or rude, but he is such a perfectionist that he holds himself to the highest possible standard. In his song “Power,” he writes, “I embody every characteristic of the egotistic / he knows, he’s so fuckin’ gifted” (28-29). Kanye is great friends with the Carter family (Jay-Z and Beyoncé) and was showing loyalty by standing up for her. There is no denying that what Mr. West did was indeed rude, but his intentions were good. We are all human, mistakes happen, but it is not the mistake that defines us; it is their actions afterward. Kanye scheduled an interview with Jay Leno where he became overwhelmed with emotion and flowing tears while publicly apologizing to Taylor Swift. Another example appears in Kanye’s song “See Me Now,” where Big Sean raps “I know Kanye a jerk how could you say that? / he rode me and my mama around in his Maybach / What kinda jerk is that?” (87-89). No jerk would take a young, broke rapper and his mother out of the hood and have them treated like royalty. Also, if Kanye was so heartless, most artists would not want to sign to his record label. Kanye has signed many artists including Big Sean, Travis Scott, and Kid Cudi, who all express how genuine a guy he is. Which proves that he is the opposite of
