In his arguments of alienated labor, Marx mentioned the distinctions between intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Intrinsic motivations are associated with a people being motivated by internal goods like personal fulfillment, personal satisfaction, and joy. Extrinsic motivations are associated with people being motivated by outside sources such as money, status, power, fame, and material goods. Alienation is an experience of being isolated from a group or a society. It is something that affects people everyday at school, work or any social events. The theme of alienation is showed in The Lego Movie when the character tries very hard to meet society’s standards. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 alienation is showed when no one listens or pays attention to the protagonist. The Lego Movie and Fahrenheit 451 does a good job demonstrating the theme of alienation with the usage of character emotions, feelings and society’s standards and labels throughout the movie and the novel.
Bed Bugs are on the rise in New York City! The common bed bug (Cimex lectularius) is responsible for the infestation of numerous homes, hotels, and transportation systems in the United States and Internationally. In 2005, bed bugs were an issue of developing countries and occurred most often in travelers (cdc.gov). Now bed bug incursions can be found throughout the United States, more importantly in NYC. Infestations mainly occur in unsanitary conditions or latch on to used furniture and mattresses often discarded on the streets (nyc.gov).
Alienation is the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one should be involved. At the end of Part 2, Gregor’s father becomes so enraged with the sight of him that he throws apples at him: “A weakly thrown apple grazed Gregor’s back but skidded off harmlessly. However, another thrown immediately after that one drove into Gregor’s back really hard” (165). In fact, that father gets so angry the mother “reached to the back of his father’s head and she begged him to spare Gregor’s life” This part of the story is related to alienation because its talking about Gregor’s family put him in a room, they are disgusted by him and they just don't want nothing to do with him.
Outsiders are somewhat and are heard as an outcast, but today that isn 't the case. People are alienated when others become isolated from their surroundings. In revolutions and various pieces of literature outsiders are abused by authority and therefore alienated. Often in literature, authors tend to show how certain characters abuse their authority leaving the outsiders alienated throughout the story.
According to Marx, there are three aspects of alienation. First, workers are alienated from their products. Their products are made for the profiteering ends of the capitalists and not for their own self-advancement. The third type of alienation is the worker’s estrangement from species-being or human identity. Isolation is generally defined as a state of being separated from others. The results of limited social interaction can be extremely detrimental to an individual's psychological well-being . In order to survive, humans need to connect with others, and to be separated from communities causes one to question their importance in the world.

Writings of Karl Marx had formed the theoretical basis for communism and the continual debate against capitalism. I agree with Marx that capitalism is indeed unfair and alienating, because it concentrates wealth within a small group of people by exploiting the surplus value of workers’ labour, and creates an alienated workforce. For Marx it is due to economic inequality in where the capitalist thinks that the workers worth nothing more than a source of labour, that can be employed and dismissed at will. Melvin Seeman’s five prominent features of alienation Melvin Seeman, the American sociologist, considers alienation as the summation of the individual's emotions, divides it into five different modalities: powerlessness, meaninglessness, normlessness, and finally self-estrangement. 1. Powerlessness According to Seeman, powerlessness theoretically means when the individual believes his activity will fail to yield the results he seeks.
