Karl Marx is a revolutionary sociologist who was concerned with the effects of capitalism since it tended to produce high levels of inequality and abuse. He believed that the effects of capitalism on people’s thinking, hence destroys the human nature and exploits the working class. The most important determinant of social life is work because it provides the basic necessities such as food and shelter. Karl Marx is suggesting that the workers should revolt against the capitalism system and take control over the means of production. As a result of the revolt, the workers will treat each other and themselves better than how capitalists will treat workers. So how does higher class exploit the working class? The higher class has the control of the means of production and the superstructure, they are exploiting the workers by controlling society's surplus product. Moreover, Karl Marx had a materialistic view of history because history changes because the labor of capitalism changes over time. For example, since the start of human history, there always seem to be a separation between the lower and higher classes. When you think of human labor, automatically associate it with a lower class. Karl Marx explained that there are three types of class societies: Ancient society, where the slaves were exploited and tied to their owners, Feudal society, which exploits serfs that are legally tied to the land and lastly, Capitalist society, which exploits workers through the owners.
