In the poem “Fury,” by Lucille Clifton, told a story about Lucille's mother who also wrote poetry even though she was uneducated. Her mother was asked to publish some of her poems in a book, but because of the arrow she live in (men were more dominant in society) Lucille's father would not let her publish her poems. In the poem it state “wife” by being an obedient wife, Lucille’s mother decided to sacrifice and give up the poems that she cherish so much by burning them in the furnace. Her “clutching hands, animal-like eyes, and her crying”, show how against she was to throwing away her work.

The award winning novel Southland, by Nina Revoyr, clearly describes life in Southern California during the mid 1900’s. In this novel, Revoyr distinctly outlines the controversy between love, race, and murder. The apparent issues in Southland begin to show themselves through the narrative set in Los Angeles. Revoyr was born in Japan and moved to Los Angeles when she was very young. Born a white American, Revoyr was racially excluded by the white children and had a hard time fitting in.

In the book Renegades by Marissa Meyer, many things happen throughout the book that many will find interesting. This story follows two main characters, Adrian Everhart and Nova Artino/Mclain. In this world, there are these people who are prodigies with superpowers that they either inherit or are born with. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.
Everyone on this earth is powerful in some way. “Powerful” is a vague yet profound word with different meanings. Power is exemplified in every character throughout literature. The main character from the graphic novel series, Maus, written by Art Spiegelman, exemplifies different types of power to help him get through life. Vladek Spiegelman from the graphic novel series Maus is the most powerful character since he uses his power of intelligence, strength, and resiliency to help him persevere through his traumatic life.

Literary Analysis The War Prayer was written by Mark Twain in the nineteenth century Imperialism. Twain uses satire to exploit the stupidity of war. In his prose, Twain explains the ghastliness of war and how people are praying to God for safety of their troops but they do not care if the opposing sides troops die.
