Kate Chopin's “The Story of an Hour” is a 1891 short story which, as its name suggests, it takes place in an hour time span of an elderly womans life from the 19th century. In “The Story of an Hour”, Chopin explores the significance of freedom, particularly to Mrs. Mallard who lives in a time where women have limited rights. The story begins with narrator introducing the main character, Louise Mallard; Mrs. Mallard is an elderly women with a critical heart condition. Josefine, Mallard's sister carefully breaks in the dreadful news that her husband, Bradley Mallard has been killed in a terrific train crash.
