This was a major accomplishment during this time in history because not only was she a woman, but she was also an African American. Katherine worked on many projects with NASA and got many rewards for her work. In school, Katherine was a very bright student and was even several grades ahead. After school, she pursued a career in teaching, until she got a job offer for NASA. Once Katherine and her family moved for her new job, Katherine began working on the orbital mission of John Glenn. Katherine’s accomplishments were already incredible, but were even more due to the fact that she went against the restraints of society, as being apart of NASA as an African American woman during this time in history.
