Katniss Everdeen Character Traits

In the book, The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen is a strong character with many admirable traits. She lives in an unspecified futuristic time period in a nation called Panem with twelve districts. Every year in Panem, an event takes place called The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a televised battle where each district of Panem sends a girl and a boy tribute, or participant, to fight to the death. One year, Katniss’s sister is chosen to be a tribute from her district, but Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place because she can’t stand the thought of losing her. Throughout the Hunger Games, Katniss demonstrates courage and bravery. She also shows that she is very caring and is more than just the tough girl that she is made out to be. Additionally, she is very trustworthy. Throughout The Games, Katniss goes through many difficult, life changing events that demonstrate to the reader her strongest traits.

In the beginning of The Games, Katniss shoots an arrow at the gamemakers. She thinks that she will for sure be killed, but instead they love her feistiness and her ability to act quickly and think it will serve her well in the games. Every one of Katniss’s traits help her in the games, even her feistiness. I think that Katniss is a very good main character because she sets a good example and teaches many important lessons. One of the many important things that I learned from Katniss is that family comes first and you should be willing to do anything for them, even if it means sacrificing yourself. Another thing I learned from her is to never give up. Katniss originally has a goal that she doesn’t think she can achieve especially because she experiences many setbacks. However, she continues to reach for her goal and in the end she succeeds. I think that Katniss Everdeen is an amazing character and can be seen as a great role model for anyone that reads about
