In their own way both Tessie and Katniss are rebellious towards the demands of the government. Even Tessie complains to the villagers while Katniss acts out, but both resent the level of intrusion into their levels. But each character resent the government intrusion into their towns life. In the first installment of the Hunger Games series we are greeted to the character Katniss Everdeen. Katniss and her family reside in the lowly District 12, the coal mining district, where the felling of death and despair is a guarantee. After the death of her father in a coal mining accident Katniss must do whatever she must in order to ensure the survival of her family and herself. Directed by Gary Ross the film was both a critical and financial success.
The main characters of the Catching Fire are Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. Other important characters include Gale Hawthorne, Haymitch Abernathy, and Finnick Odair. • Katniss is a kind and brave individual as she is always thinking of ways to help her friends and willing to take risks. At the start of the novel, Katniss worries about Gale’s (her best friend) financial situation. She has “buckets of money, far more than enough to feed both [their] families now, and he won’t take a single coin.”
Katniss Everdeen: Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of the novel, and the story is told from her perspective. She is a 16-year-old girl who lives in District 12, the poorest region of a nation called Panem. She has straight black hair, olive skin and gray eyes. This is a common appearance for residents who live in the Seam.
Katniss and Peeta develop a complicated relationship throughout the novel, and conflicts of interests, plus the entire nature of their relationship can be can be easily scrutinized, once closely examined. From the beginning of the novel, Peeta goes out of his way to care for Katniss, and at one point suffers phsical abuse from his mother in order to feed her a loaf of bread. “The boy took one look back to the bakery as if checking that the coast 32 was clear, then, his attention back on the pig, he threw a loaf of bread in my direction. The second quickly followed, and he sloshed back to the bakery, closing the kitchen door tightly behind him.” (Collins 32).
A few of the ways the government will manipulate and distract its people are by the development of a clever social hierarchy system and the believable techniques of propaganda. The totalitarian governments created in George Orwell's 1984 and Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games are very comparable when it comes to the rigid social structure to maintain control and power over its citizens. The social hierarchy developed in the novel The Hunger Games, begins with a leader figure of the nation Panem: President Snow. He runs the futuristic Capitol which lords over all the other twelve districts and portrays economic dominance over Panem.
There is a rebellion going on that the capitol has no idea about because during the games at the end of the book Katniss shoots an arrow at the force field that surrounds the arena where the tributes are fighting. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a story about Katniss Everdeen who lives in district 12 with her mom and her sister Prim. Her sister gets picked for the Hunger Games which is where each of the 12 districts have to give a boy and a girl from the ages of 12-18 do fight till the death until there is one person standing. This is because there was an outbreak against the capitals thats why there is the Hunger Games. Katniss volunteers do her sister and now has to try and win the games. One theme in this story that is shown is that family love can go along way, this is shown because she is very overprotective of Prim.
