With the Canadian election taking place and the Liberal Party taking over, Justin Treadeu and his cabinet can focus on a promise that should have been dealt with by the previous government. The campaign promise consists of taking control over the high levels of violence against Aboriginal women and girls (Meghan Rhoad, 2015, para. 1). Meghan Rhoad’s, author of Keeping a Promise to Canada’s Indigenous Women and Girls, claims that (2015), “indigenous women and girls in Canada are murdered at almost four times the rate of other women and girls in Canada” (para. 2). The liberal party has determined that a national public inquiry regarding the murders and vanishings will be authorized. This will establish a moment for an independent investigation that will provide assistance to combating a plan of action (Rhoad, 2015, para. 4). Moreover, Rhoad states that the Liberal Party needs to support indigenous women and help them feel protected; safety for these women begin with building a trustful relationship with the government and the faith that the government will fulfill it’s …show more content…

If the Liberal Party completes their promise to stop such violence, people’s faith in our government will be restored. Missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada has been happening for many years, making it seem like it is not a key issue. We hear of it happening, but very little actions are being done to stop it. If Canada wants to be considered diverse and multicultural then they need to show a concern for the missing women. Instead, they are promoting racism by not taking these series of events actively. In the past, the government has broken apart Aboriginal families and communities, leaving many women of this race vulnerable to exploitation and attack.
