In the book Stress: The Owner’s Manual, author Pierce J. Howard provides the reader with an abundance of advice and tips for coping with stress and the things in our lives that cause stress. He breaks down the anatomy of stress, and makes it simple to understand what stress is and why we feel it. From the book, we learn that stress is part of what makes us human, and isn’t necessarily always a bad thing. Even though we typically respond negatively to stress, there are also some good effects that stress can have on us, such as giving us the motivation to accomplish our tasks in a timely manner.

Tyler Kropelak EDUC 441 09/12/2014 ST Journal # 3 The third week of student teaching was possibly the most stressful week I’ve experienced during my entire college career. Not only have I have been working hard on the lessons I create and teach, but another element that upped my stress level was transitioning in to taking over my second class. Taking over my second class was a little more difficult than I originally expected because there are 31 students, a lot more than the 18 students in my first class. For the first couple of weeks I had very little interaction with them and did not have a good idea of the students’ personalities.
So, everyone will eventually be put into difficult and stressful situations. Humans are individuals with varying personalities; everyone will react differently to their situation. Some individuals act like I did, the stress and emotions become too much and they want to give up. Others use that stress and their emotions to drive themselves forward and be the best they can be in that situation. Being able to handle that stress and the emotions it causes you is essential in living a happy and successful life.
Stress kills. Unfortunately, not enough people adequately manage their stress. Failure to manage stress could occur because people fail to recognize the symptoms of stress. Ellen Ullman’s character from The Bug, Ethan Levin, the Mayo Clinic Staff’s report, “Stress symptoms: Effects on your body and behavior,” and the American Psychological Association’s “Stress: The different kinds of stress” all explore the perspective of oblivion.

The English Oxford Living Dictionaries (2017) defines stress as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances”. Stress can affect our bodies in many different ways and can often result in illness and poor health and wellness. Stress can worsen or even lead to illness, affect peoples behaviour, and can produce changes in the bodies psychological and physical systems (Caltabiano, Sarafino, & Byrne, 2008). For these reasons, plus many more, I have started a new self-care activity to help lower and manage my stress.

We all experience our share of stress and worry in today's society. Considering the changes and experiences in our daily lives, to include the many environmental and social issues taking place, there is no way around it. Stress comes in many forms and impacts each individual differently; however, it really comes down to how that individual perceives and handles stressors that come their way. Believe it or not, there are two types of stress. We have positive stress that keeps us on our toes.
Stress involves interaction of the person and environment. To quote a definition: “Stress is an adaptive response to an external situation that results in physical, psychological and / or behavioural deviations for organizational participants” (Luthans, 1998). Stress has generally been viewed as a set of neurological and physiological reactions that serves an adaptive function (Franken, 1994). Traditionally, stress research has been oriented toward studies involving the body's reaction to stress and the cognitive processes that influence the perception of stress. However, social perspectives of the stress response have noted that different people experiencing similar life conditions are not necessarily affected in the same manner (Pearlin, 1982).
Managing your stress will give you a greater happiness. Being pressured with stress makes you feel like you are in a box, and can’t get out. Oftentimes, when we are stressed, it seems like we are fenced in a corner. Finding the cause of your stress is the beginning of managing it. Explaining your stress to seem like it’s not a big deal, is not getting
