Amongst all the hip-hop rap artists of all history, many have gained worldwide recognition, including Tupac Shakur, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Eminem, and many others. However, as these artists pass their time of fame, upcoming rappers and artists take their place to set their own stories. One of the most notable rappers of our time is Kendrick Lamar. He was introduced to poetry by his seventh-grade teacher and has gone on to reach Triple Platinum with his first major album, "good kid, m.A.A.d city," and being the first pop artist to win a Pulitzer Prize for his album "DAMN." He describes these past struggles, like sleeping from different places and the stress of living in Section 8 with his mother. However, one line that ties it all together is the last line, where Lamar highlights that he won't even buy a nice car for himself out of fear that he will lose his money. Lamar was always anxious about how he could support himself, his family, and his career. This indicates the situation that Lamar was living in. In conclusion, Kendrick Lamar has been through a lot in his life, having grown up in Compton, where the city's crime rate is the highest in the U.S. Despite the negativity around him, he fell in love with poetry and music, he has been able to turn his life around and share his story with others. Songs like "u" and "I" not only share the depression and self-hatred that Lamar has faced, but also the self-love and uplift he has for himself, especially in this harsh world. Other songs like "Mother I Sober" talk about the everlasting generational pain that many African Americans have experienced. The song "FEAR" is about the terror that Lamar has through his different stages of life, like his mother's effort to keep him out of trouble, the ongoing fear of death, and the loss of his financial wealth. Through the range of musical styles and songs, Lamar takes the listener on a ride of his life. Using many different styles of poetry and rap to give every listener an introspection of Kendrick
