“Beta club is not for everyone, it is just for those who want to be leaders.” That is exactly why I want to be a member of the Beta club. I want to be a leader. The Beta club is an opportunity giving program, which will give us the chance to serve others and be around others who are different from us. The Beta club can open up many students’ hearts and convey their dreams to the world.
Phi Beta Sigma Inc. Celebrities are popular faces of the world, as we allow them to create a humongous impact on our society. Society looks up to those who carry a higher status or level of fame as such if they were prophets themselves. This fraternity includes a few members who are very appealing to the entire world; some such as Blair Underwood and Terrence Howard to be credible representatives of this particular brotherhood. We more are willing to listen to what they have to say and to interact with them, as they have.
The Boys and Girls Club was started in 1860 in Hartford Connecticut by Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin, and Elizabeth Hammersley. Originally the club was known as Boys Club of America and their goal was to keep young boys off the streets and provide them with a more influential place to go. However, it wasn’t until 1990 that girls became involved and the club was renamed the Boys and Girls Club (www.bgca.org). Today, the Boys and Girls Club’s mission is to help boys and girls realize what they are capable of and become accomplished citizens. The program also wants children to be aware of their own importance, impact, helpfulness, and ability as individuals (www.bgcsnv.org).
Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.

Beta Club is considered a service organization. Each semester, Beta Club members are required to complete ten hours of service. To some people, Beta Club is something they are involved with because all of their classmates seem to be involved with it, but to others like me, Beta Club holds a much greater meaning. Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.
At my high school, the Beta Club is the most elite, respected, and prestigious club. It is filled with the leaders, the doers, the hard-working, and the individuals who turn their dreams into reality. It is not for everyone, and in our ever-changing society, that is clear. Most people today do not like to rise up to the ever-growing challenge of leadership. It takes a certain kind of person to be a good leader, and the Beta Club has greatly helped me in doing so.
Our founding fathers based our nation upon certain core values. These values prompted men to take up arms to not obtain but defend them as well requiring some to make the ultimate sacrifice. These core values are liberty, individualism, equality and self-government. The pilgrims, the earliest settlers, came to this continent to pursue religious liberty since they were persecuted by government officials.
One of the many actions that keep our nation going, that is often overlooked, is community service. Often times community service is required in school and in jobs encouraging people to be excited to help out. Other times, people
