Throughout the book there are many themes that occur. One being appreciate who you are. Bone struggles with accepting the way that she looks. She feels that she’s no good and nobody cares about her. She’s constantly looking at her mother and aunt for approval. She want to look just like them and act how they act. She needs to worry less about what other people think and be herself. Along with being yourself, accept where you’re at in society. In the book Bone and her family were living there lives paycheck to paycheck. When her mom married Glen he tried too hard to provide for the family. He wanted them to have more things, but they just couldn’t afford it. By him working like crazy to get money it caused him to get cranky and eventually lose his job. He wanted to move his family up on the social ladder really bad, but nothing that he did worked. Bone didn’t want to tell anyone what Glen was doing to her, which made things worse. By telling someone right away, Bone would have been able to avoid all of her pain and suffering from Glen. Also maybe her mother with side with her rather than letting Glen do what he wants because she loves him and doesn’t want him to leave. Another important theme from this book is betrayal. In the end of the book Bones mom leaves her in a hospital and doesn’t say anything to her she just leaves. Later when Bone is living with her aunt her mom comes and tells her that she chose Glen over her. Anney chose Glen over her own daughter. She betrayed her for
