Kid Nation and Lord of the Flies are very similar even though one is fiction and one is reality. Both are about a group of kids that have to survive without adults to make hard decisions and lead. Throughout both situations the kids struggle and fight a lot. There is a lot of fighting going on that has to do with leader, livestock, and workload. They have to come together to make things right so that they can survive or win. Both Kid Nation and Lord of the Flies by William Golding depicts very similar situations when a group of children with no supervision struggle to get along and make it out alive. Whether it is fighting about decisions, leaders, or work, both Kid nation and Lord of the Flies struggle to make important decisions without adult around to supervise and help manage. One of the first similarities between the two are the leaders. In the beginning or Lord of the flies, the boys have to elect a leader. Another similarity between the two is the killing of their livestock. In Lord of the Flies in order to have meat the boys decide to kill the pigs on the island. Everyone is happy with the fact they are going to get fresh meat but after a while it becomes too intense and some people don’t want to kill the pigs anymore. This is very similar to one of the episodes on Kid Nation. The kids want fresh meat after a while so they decide they need to kill one of their chickens. Not everyone is happy with this decision. One of the little girls gets really emotional and tries to stop the plan. The last major similarities between both is the work that has to happen. In Lord of the Flies Ralph and Piggy are trying to build shelters for the littluns and no one else is helping. They also assign the choir boys to watch the fire and they don't do their work.
