Playing 2K every day may not improve a player’s jump shot or increase their speed, but through observational learning, a player is able to enhance their basketball intelligence through an interactive simulation. Although impossible to control every player on the court simultaneously, artificial intelligence, also known as AI, controls teammates and CPU by inputting players into optimal scoring and defensive positions. A pass to a center may lead to a double team, a shooter may spot up, or another player may cut towards the basket. Additionally, based on the user, the AI will adapt and counter user’s strengths so that players must learn to use their weaknesses or run different plays. Granted, video games at some point do have their cons, but provide similar psychological benefits in comparison to physically playing the sport. Of course, people vary in learning methods and may prefer a single or combination of auditory learning, visual learning, or kinesthetic learning. In basketball, most people are kinesthetic learners which means learning through the physical activity. According to OnlineCollege.org, “27.6% of the population are kinesthetic learners and 20.6% are visual learners.” 2K incorporates both kinesthetic learning and visual learning techniques.When being defended by a player, the controller vibrates at different levels indicating that a player cannot easily pass through the defense. Just like DJ, everyone has begun their journey in finding their place in society. Through the customizability of every aspect of a player’s created avatar, 2K establishes that a person is free to choose who they want to be. However, DJ at times through his actions can simultaneously be perceived as a hero and a villain. For example, signing with a different team allows fans the ability to perceive and depict DJ however they so choose. Nonetheless, a real-life example is Kevin Durant leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. Durant was perceived as a hero in Golden State for winning a championship in his first tenure there. On the other hand, an exuberating amount of NBA fans depicted Durant as the villain for choosing the easy way out. In other words, MyCareer teaches players that it is impossible to please everyone and that the person that matters most is not friends or co-workers but oneself.
