In the book King Arthur and the knights of the round table introduced by David Almond, Launcelot is a great hero because Launcelot's adventures follows the hero's cycle as he is called to adventure, experiences trials and crisis, and finds treasure and a new life at the end of his journey. Lancelot's call to adventure begins when Lady Nimue brings Launcelot and his two cousins to King Arthur’s court as Merlin's last request. When Lady Nimue came to King Arthur's court she told him: “I come to you my lord king...to bring this man my foster child, the son of king pant of gwynedd. I come to bring you merlin's last behest: for ere he went living into the earth, he sought out this youth and bade him to come to your court upon the feast of pentecost and ask him to bestow upon him the high order of knighthood.” (119). Arthur, knowing this day would come with the name launcelot in gold written on one of the sieges, he made him a knight. “Then Arthur rose and came down into the hall:drawing the sword excalibur, he laid it upon Lancelot's shoulders, and bade him rise a knight.” (119). At that moment Lancelot's adventure began.

“Next day at the feast of pentecost all Arthur's knights were gathered together at the round table, and Sir Launcelot came in wearing Sir Kay's armour, but, of course. with no helmet..” (143). Launcelot being at the Round Table made Arthur very happy because he was such a great knight. “And King Arthur was happy to have such a knight in his court, and Queen Guenevere loved him as she heard tell of the mighty deeds…”(143-144).
