The Middle Age is one of the most prolific eras in history. Many great battles and foundation building for today’s world occurred during this time. If one were to ask another about the Middle Ages, chances are the topics of knights and chivalry will come up. The chances of King Arthur being brought up following that are even greater. King Arthur is probably the most renowned figure from the middle ages. So many stories, epics, and legends are surrounded by his name. King Arthur was the son of Ulther Pendragon, and the King of England. He ruled England for many years during the 5th and 6th centuries, and defeated many of England’s greatest enemies of the time. Many legends say that the sword was given to him by the mythical Lady of the Lake. The Lady of the Lake is said to inhabit an underwater castle in a submerged kingdom. As the legend goes, she supposedly took one of King Arthur’s knights as a young child, and released him as an adult. The child was the brave and noble knight, Sir Lancelot. King Arthur and his knights were out on the lake when a hand emerged from the waters with the sword in hand. King Arthur lost a battle to Pellinore, who broke the sword in half. The lady of the Lake takes Arthur to Merlin, and they struck a deal. King Arthur would be given his sword if he brought Balin’s head back. Ironically though, Balin took her head off. Supposedly, as the tale goes, the magical Merlin ensnared the sword in a large stone and engraved the words “Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil is rightwise king born of all England.” The young knight Sir Arthur pulled the sword from the stone and was given the title King of England. After being granted the title of King, King Leodegran of Carmelide granted Arthur the legendary round table for marrying his daughter (Zhang). When the topic of King Arthur or even the middle ages is spoken about, it is hard not to bring up the legendary round table. This table held many conferences with many of England’s most noble and well-known knights, and England’s most legendary king. The table was made by Merlin, who had originally crafted the table for Arthur’s father, Ulther Pendragon. The table came into possession of King Leodegran which in turn gifted it to Arthur, as a token for marrying his daughter. The table was made to symbolize the Grail table. The table had an open seat for Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon, just like the Grail Table had an open spot for Judas.
