King Arthur’s Legendary Elements A Legend is a fictional story that has some historical truth, it’s told as a fact even though the story is fictional, it has a hero that does a good deed to help others, and it has a lesson that is being taught. In king Arthur these elements are illustrated throughout this tale, making it a legend. One main reason that King Arthur is considered a legend is because it encompasses a historical characteristic and it is told as a factual event in time and not a fictional narrative. On the website Innovateus.net it says “So the stories may be made up but the events may be based on facts though not in its entirety.” And also “In other words the story of a legend is narrated like a historical event rather than functioning as a symbolic narrative,” (What Are Legends 1). What these two text are saying is that legends are often told and described as real historical events rather than a story that a person made up, and they put real settings or facts to make it look like more of a true story. From the same website it says “The stories about the King and their Knights testified that they helped their people and defended them in times of need,” (What Are Legends 1). This is talking about in the 6th century when there were knights and what they did. King Arthur is based off those times so Arthur is a king that does good deeds for his people, “Arthur rode as fast as he could but found the door locked ‘I will ride to the churchyard and take that sword in the stone, for my brother shall not be without a sword this day,” (Hirsch 100-101). So even though he found the door to be locked, he didn’t give up and came up with a solution just to help his brother. For his good actions knew was most likely not going to be rewarded for it but he did it anyway which makes it a selfless good
