David and Solomon God truly blessed King David and King Solomon in the years that they reigned. David was a king who took many cities and he was very skilled in the art of war. Solomon was a king who received that kingdom from David and he not only knew how to run it but how acquire many things through business. But none of what happened to them would have happened if it were not for God. I contend the only reason David and Solomon were successful in their reign was because God was on their side and made it possible for them to advance in His kingdom. King David was a force to be reckoned with. Every tribe he went up against, he had the victory. “In the early stages of Solomon’s reign, it was explicitly clear that God was with Him” (Swindoll 7). 2 Chronicles 1:1 says, “Solomon the son of David established himself in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.” Straight from the start, one can see that Solomon was also led by God. That means that all the things he accomplished was because of God. In 1 Kings God enriches Solomon with a multitude of things. Some of those things included but are not limited to “all of Israel” (4.1), “dominion over all the region west of the Euphrates” (4.24), servants and allies (5.1), timber (5.10), gold (9.28) spices, precious stones (10.10), silver ivory, and apes (10.22-25). God used trade networks, partners, and his position as king to get Solomon those things. But, again, Solomon could not have done or received any of those things without God’s provision. 1 Kings 9 shows that God walked with Solomon as long as Solomon walked “with integrity of heart and uprightness” (9.4) as well as doing all God commanded him like David did.
