After the siege of Charleston, Sir Henry Clinton traveled back to New York leaving Cornwallis in command of the British campaign in North and South Carolina. On the morning of August 16, 1780, General Horatio Gates chose to fight Cornwallis’ force even though just the previous night his men suffered the terribly infectious illness of dysentery. Gates was confident in his American army of around 3,700 soldiers because they outnumbered the British army of around 2,100 troops. The American advantage ended quickly as one thousand American troops were unable to fight due to the illness they suffered the night before.

As the 13 year old assistant drummer, he was required to assemble for the morning reveille, with Robert Averil, the 18 year old drummer and the fifers. A few tents over Francis Ullman would have heard the drumming and movement as he had done for the past 4 years. Mattie trusts Rooster because she’s been old that he is a man with true grit. This trait to Mattie means a person who has a lot of courage, which is something she needs someone with to go on the journey. This helps their journey because it helps them be able to navigate the plains unafraid and with precision. This also helps when they get into the middle of a gun fights with Lucky Ned Pepper’s posse. Rooster trait also helps the quest because it makes Mattie feel a lot more comfortable with capturing Chaney and not being harmed.

In high school, I was known as the party-pooper. Whenever we hung out after school, I was always the first one to leave. The reason was not because I did not enjoy the time with my friends or my guardians required me to return home early. It was because on the way riding back home, I always felt like I heard the sound of another bike tailgating me although there was no one actually riding behind me.
