King Ludwig II was born in 1845 and became King at the age of 18. He spent his childhood in a strict environment with harsh physical exercise. He was famously known as the ‘fairytale king’ as he was a romantic idealist and loved building huge castles. He died at the age of 40 and his death is till date a mystery in history. His body was found floating in a lake after he had been out of sight with his physician who was also found dead the same time (McIntosh 306). He was accused of bowing before a tree he believed was sacred, he was shy, his behaviour was rather childish, he made strange dancing moves when he was excited, he hallucinated, he beat his servants, he had strange fantasies, and so on. Dr. Gudden had been commenting on the improvement in Ludwig and that his treatment was working. Dr. Gudden had claimed that Ludwig was incurably insane few weeks ago and later he claimed that he was improving. This probably worried the ministers as it would fail their plan.
