A Journey Toward God Many people have a hard time being away from home, but what if you were 7,748 miles away? Katie Davis went 7,748 miles away from her home in Nashville, Tennessee to Jinja, Uganda. In her autobiography, Kisses From Katie, she tells about her beginning journey of moving to Uganda in 2006 to her life in 2011. She writes this book in a way that she can talk directly to the reader and also has letters she has written to most likely, friends and family to give us sort of an inside look at what she is feeling at the time. Kisses From Katie has a powerful and inspirational message that makes it perfect for anyone with compassion.

It is almost as if you have known these people your whole life and are looking into their hearts. In describing one of the children that stays with her, Agnes, she says, “ . . . is a born leader. She can befriend just about anyone. She is outgoing and engaging. . . . She is set in her convictions, knows what she wants, and will not easily let anyone tell he she can’t have it” (Davis 60). When Katie describes this 9 year old it is like seeing directly into her heart and it is easy to picture how she would act. In another time when describing Scovia she says, “ When she laughs, which is often, she laughs from the inmost part of her being, from deep in her soul, and the laugh overtakes her whole body, . . . Even though she’s still a child, something about her causes observers to realize she’s had experience in life” (Davis 59). With the description Katie gave, we can imagine how Scovia acts and her personality as if we have known her for years. Over and over in the book, she explains the people she meets with such certainty and detail that they almost leap off the
