The history of the kitchen layout is forever changing/adapting. Kitchens were not always as they are today, clean, fitted, uniform cabinets with fitted appliances, it was only within the last half a century design has adapted to modern life. Kitchens in the late 1800s and early 1900s were very different to today, used not only by members of the household, but servants were common/regular in those times. This means that the majority of Victorian built homes often have ‘wrongly located’ kitchens, sometimes at basement level or at the very back of the home in small room.
