In The Kite Runner, the arts of literacy, writing, and books are a big part of Amir Jan’s life, hence, why he is an author. Similarly, I too have the same love for books as Amir Jan. I feel as though both of us have the same love for our hobby, reading for many reasons, which, I will discuss in this essay. For this reason, I will also include how my life was prior to my found hobby of reading books. Last, I will explore how my love for reading even came about.
Amir Jan and I are were not so alike when I was younger. In fact, one can say that I was more like Amir’s baba, who thought reading was a waste of time. However, the only reason I used to have this mentality was because I was not the best reader in my second-grade class. In other words, I had to get extra help because I was behind on my reading level. Months after getting help on reading I was up to speed on my reading level. Yet, I still did not like reading for fun, I just read when it was absolutely necessary, as in, subtitles, homework, flyers, etc.

So, it was not a surprise that after the book fair every student went back to their classroom to do S.S.R. All of my classmates got into comfortable positions all around the classroom, including me and we just started to read. The first chapter was not super exciting, it just introduced the main characters, supporting characters, and the setting; essentially, like any book’s first chapter. I knew this was the case so I just half-read the first chapter of The Wild Girls. However, once the second chapter came about I started getting a little more interesting and I started reading faster.
