The screenplays list the different scenes of the film but in grey detail. It’s meant to be used as a reference for the film actors to follow their lines and scenes. In the film, the visuals provided let the audience place themselves as outside characters on the screen. The detailed visuals of the film compared to the screenplay establish the atmosphere and enhance storytelling. Visual elements of the film include the character portrayal, lighting, background, camera angles, etc. In the screenplay, characters are depicted only through their names and lifestyles. You can get a sense of who they are, but not a visual representation of them. For example, Linda Thrombey is the daughter of Harlan and is portrayed as an authoritative, assertive, and confident woman. This was shown almost immediately in the questioning scene with Lieutenant Elliot, Trooper Wagner, and Benoit Blanc. Lieutenant Elliot mentioned Linda’s business. In the screenplay, we get Linda’s dialogue, but it misses the tone of the voice. Her response was interpreted by the readers to be snappy and sarcastic. In the film, Linda’s appearance adds special effects to how the audience interprets the scene. She is depicted as an older woman with a prestigious style. From the way her hair was styled to the outfit of choice, Linda was shown to be of high status. The visual aspect of the film allows the audience to see Linda's superior mindset. Lighting is also an important aspect of the film because it sets the tone and mood for the scene. Specifically, in the Thrombey’s house, the warm lighting reflects the wealthiness of the family. In certain scenes, we can see the lighting dim and become more shadow-like when there is suspense or mystery. Background also plays a role in setting tone and mood. It is well-known by many that the Thrombey’s were a wealthy family and background aspects help contribute to enhancing the atmosphere of the mansion. Filmmakers
