Kobe Bryant was born in 1978 in Philadelphia. His parents were Joe and Pamela Bryant. Joe Bryant was a former NBA player. Kobe had two older sisters. At the age of 6 Kobe’s family moved to Italy. Then in 1991 they moved back to Philadelphia. Kobe grew up watching basketball and soccer. He was a huge fan of the LA Lakers and the AC Milan. Kobe enrolled at Lower Merion Ace for high school. He soon became involved in the basketball program. Kobe was always referred to as “Joe Bryant’s kid” all throughout middle school. No one knew Kobe for Kobe, only as his father’s shadow. Kobe made the varsity team his freshman year. Many people said he had some skill. They all said he had handles and he could shoot. Although they also doubted him. They said he was too skinny and he was too fragile. So Kobe set out to prove everyone wrong. That NBA draft Kobe was drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats, but then traded to the LA Lakers. In Kobe’s basketball career he went on to win 5 NBA Championships, 1 MVP award, NBA All-Rookie Team, 3 time All-NBA team, 3 time All-defensive Team, 2 time NBA finals MVP, 3 time NBA All-star game MVP, and the defensive player of the year.
