Japanese forces landed on the northern coast of Papua, in 1942. Their goal was to capture Port Moresby, which was located at the southern coast, in order to do that, they had to make their way overland along the Kokoda track. Their objective was to do something that would allow them to have the control of Papua, and a base from which to attack Australian mainland (because Papua is close to northern part of Australia), and shipping in the Pacific. The Kokoda action is remembered as one of the most difficult operations by Australian troops in World War II. The action lasted until November 1942. In real life the circumstances were very similar to the movie the soldiers were most of the time wet and cold because of the constant rain and the area they were fighting (rainforest) was also very similar surrounded by large trees and bushes, and the soldiers had to walk on a wet and muddy track. In the movie they showed how the tracks that the soldiers walked on were very muddy and wet and in the start of the movie showed that a soldier was laying in a pile of mud and his body was covered up by mud and he gets up and looks down at the very steep track were it was surrounded by large trees and bushes, and the muddy track that the other soldiers were walking on. The movie did expand to a large extend to the diseases and the living conditions were also very similar to the real life event and the movie covered most of the living conditions of the soldiers. Another thing that the movie showed which was similar to the real life event was the living conditions and diseases. In the movie it shows that the soldiers were sitting around in a group, in their hands having to be ready for the enemy to attack any time. There was no showers and because of the uncleanness lots more diseases and much more chance of getting badly sick. In one of the scenes one of the soldiers is going to the toilet and is walking away from the rest of the group looking for privacy and had to have his gun with him because there was a possibility of someone attacking him while his going to the toilet. They was not even an actual toilet that is why they had to get away from the other groups of soldiers in order to find a good
