Mariam Zebian Elizabeth Bierbaum HSP 3 U 1-02 04 June 2024 Who is Kristen Gilbert? Kristen Heather Strickland was born on November 13th 1967, in Fall River, Massachusetts. (Milne, 2021). She was raised in a nuclear family, her Dad being the breadwinner in the family and her Mom being the stay at home wife taking care of her and her siblings (Milne, 2021). Mrs. Gilbert's parents were married but her parents didn't have the best relationship with each other, Gilbert's parents were very distant and didn't show her the affection she needed, this took a huge toll on her mental health (Milne, 2021). Gilbert had gone through a lot of wrong doing throughout her life as a nurse, wife and mother but all this did not happen unexpectedly. Before Mrs. Gilbert became a nurse, she was living back with her parents. Throughout her childhood, her parents lacked the ability to give her the affection and love she needed. Her father was a full-time worker and he was barely at home as was her mother. She was a stay at home wife and a part time teacher, but for the most part she took care of Kristein and her one other sister. Once Mrs. Gilbert entered her teenage years, friends and family noticed that she began to show manipulative and dishonest tendencies (Dover, 2023). The personality factors that were associated and shown with this murder were childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, etc. these behaviors kept occurring during her adult years. (Milne, 2021 - 2021). Although she was a gifted student who earned high grades and was a member of her school's math club. (Dover, 2023). Over time, her friends isolated themselves from her and her family started to gain suspicions from her odd behavior that she was conveying. This forced her to become a prisoner in her own mind and spend a lot of time alone. Once she started college, she went to one close to home so that she could still see her family. She began to show psychotic traits in which she’d show violent threats to herself and others. Gilbert had started keeping an eye out for her and watching the supply of drugs that could produce cardiac arrest (Dover, 2023). During her shift there were three patients who experienced near-fatal heart failure and including those four elderly patients who died (Dover, 2023). Everyone was confused on how this could happen in one day, it was unexpected. Mrs. Gilbert’s co-workers started to investigate it more as she had been acting off recently. They found out that there was a shortage of epinephrine, a drug that's commonly used to treat life-threatening allergic reactions or stimulate the heart (Dover, 2023). In February of 1996, three nurses filed a case against Mrs. Gilbert (Dover, 2023). Mrs. Gilbert was aware that there was an investigation going on so she began disguising herself for example her voice, her look, etc (Dover, 2023). She also called a bomb threat to the hospital she worked at (Dover, 2023). After this incident Mrs. Gilbert had been arrested and sent to prison; shortly after she ended up leaving the hospital, the number of death rates dropped increasingly (Dover, 2023). The patients bodies were then further investigated to see the mystery deaths that occurred, according to the toxicology reports it showed that all the bodies had epinephrine in their tissues, this shows that Mrs. Gilbert was the killer of these innocent patients (Dover, 2023).
