This essay will be covering a trend analysis on kroger’s financial performance over the span of five years. It will include the company’s vision/ mission statement, and a brief background of the company’s business operations. It will also examine the company’s corporate social responsibility statement. The essay will include tables and charts for relevant data analysis. But before getting too deeply into the essay, I will first talk about the reason for choosing the company. In my home, there are weekly expenses that are necessary and at the top of the list are grocery shopping and fuel shopping. For the longest, these two shopping delicacies have been costly for my household until I discovered Kroger. Kroger allows me to save money on my grocery and fuel bill. Trend analysis is based on the idea that what happened in the past gives traders an idea of what will happen in the future (Investopedia). Block et al said it best regarding trend analysis, Block et al stated that over the course of the business cycle, sales and profitability may expand and contract, and ratio analysis for any one year may not present an accurate picture of the firm. Therefore one must look at the trend analysis of performance over a number of years (Pg. 65). It is suggested that in order for investors to make a good decision as to potential investments, one should look at the company’s financial statements. A good place to start this analytical process would be on the company’s overall profitability section of its financial documents or better known as the net income. The net income is the amount that shows the company’s bottom line dollar after all expenses or deductions like taxes, interests, cost of production, depreciation, etc. – has been taken out.
